A Latino Comes To Westeros In “Game Of Thrones” Season 4 Premiere

Game of Thrones finally added a Latino actor to its ginormous cast with the addition of Chilean actor Pedro Pascal. He will be playing the part of Oberyn Martell, the Red Viper of Dorne. He is basically a pan-sexual killing machine that dresses to impress. I am a huge GOT fan and have read all the books so I was doubly excited when I heard that Pascal was cast as Martell. Firstly, it’s good casting. He has the “sexy yet dark” thing that you need if you are going to play a bad ass like Oberyn Martell. Secondly, I was excited because there was finally going to be a Latino in Westeros. For as amazing a show as Game of Thrones is, it’s a little lily white. OK, it’s whiter than King Joffrey’s bare butt. There are literally thousands of cast members in the Gamebut only around 2% are people of color

Not that that’s going to make me stop watching the show. Westeros is a Europe-like continent and I understand that most of the people on it are going to look a certain way. I guess Dorne, which is in the southernmost point of the magical land, is where the Latinos live. It’s where the day laborers that built the Red Keep send money home and where all the fresh produce for Cersei Lannister’s table come from. Fans are in for a treat as Oberyn is one of the coolest characters in the books. “The Lannisters aren’t the only ones that pay their debts.”
