Buena Vista Social Club To Perform At White House

Por primera vez in more than five decades, a Cuban-based band will perform at the White House. According to White House officials, the renowned Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club will perform at a White House ceremony on Thursday, October 15 at a reception celebrating the end of Hispanic Heritage Month as well as the 25th anniversary of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.

For those that do not know, the Buena Vista Social Club was a musical and cultural club in Cuba from the 1940’s that encouraged Afro-Cuban musical styles. In the 1990’s, nearly 50 years after the club closed the band was born taking the name Buena Vista Social Club. This legendary band is best know for sus calurosos ritmos del son, el bolero, el danzón y la salsa.
