Chipotle Is Worse For You Than McDonald’s?

Is eating Chipotle as bad as or even worse than McDonald’s when it comes to nutrition?

According to a new study from the University of South Carolina, entrees at fast-food chains like Chipotle and Panera Bread can rack up 35 percent more calories than meals at McDonald’s and Taco Bell. The results of the study show that, on average, the so-called healthy dishes contained about 760 calories while fast-food meals were about 561 calories.

And to make things worse, the study claims that add-ons like guacamole, shredded cheese, and sour cream make things worse. Once you start piling on the extra goodies, your waistline grows with it.

Danielle Schoffman, the study’s lead author when on to say, “These add-ons are available at both types of restaurants. But the option of customizing your meal at fast-casual places gives you more opportunity to select or avoid the extra calories.”

So basically she is saying Chipotle can be healthier because you have options to make smarter choices than at, say, Burger King. But seriously who is going to pass up on cheese, sour cream and guac on your burrito?
