Costa Rica Continue Their Incredible Run

Costa Rica makes history by reaching the World Cup quarter finals for the first time. Los Ticos have surprised everyone, overcoming Uruguay, Italy and holding England to a draw and winning Group D. Their dream run continued as they faced Greece. As favorites in this match, Los Ticos struggled to show the form they had in previous games but at the 52nd minute mark, Bryan Ruiz put them on the board. After the 66 minute mark, Los Ticos were reduced to 10 men for almost 30 minutes.

Greece just could not take advantage and frantically scored its only goal to tie the game close to the end of the game. This scrappy game ended up going to double overtimes and would head to penalties. All nine penalty takers scored before Theofanis Gekas stepped up and his kick was saved by Navas. Los Ticos celebrate a historic win and now will face La Maquina Naranja of The Netherlands which eliminated Costa Rica’s CONCACAF rivals Mexico.
