Cross Border Airport links San Diego With Mexico

This bridge will allow passengers to walk across between the United States and Mexico, avoiding lengthy lines at the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa ports of entry.

In Mexico, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico, or GAP, a Mexican holding company that operates the Tijuana airport and 11 others across Mexico, is investing 180 million pesos to expand the Tijuana airport and build a small section of the bridge.

The project is privately funded, mostly by U.S. based investors and is estimated to cost $78 million, in which includes the cost of land, the bridge construction on both sides of the border and building the mixed-use structure that would house shops, restaurants and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection station.

The developers envision that by the end of 2014, ticketed airline passengers who pay a toll will be able to cross the U.S.-Mexico border within minutes in both directions.

I don’t konw why some people are against this great project, it will benefit benefit both sides of the border and I believe that travelers will be willing to pay a toll just to avoid long lines and cross the border quickly.
