Dodgers To Sign Cuban Players Omar Estevez And Yusniel Diaz

The Dodgers are adding another couple of Cuban players to their ever increasing collection of Cuban sluggers. They are close to closing a deal with recent emigres Yusniel Diaz and Omar Estevez. Diaz is ranked #3 on the MLB’s list of top international prospects has a .348 batting average and a .448 on-base percentage. Estevez is a classic second baseman. It’s as if he was created in a lab to be a second baseman. The exact numbers haven’t been announced yet but Diaz will get a 15.5 million dollar signing bonus and Estevez will get $6 million. That’s a lot of money for a couple of guys that were making a whole lot of nothing playing in the Cuban leagues just a year or so ago. They join other Cuban Dodgers Yasiel Puig, Alex Guerrero, Pablo Fernandez, and Yadiel Alvaerez.

This is just the beginning. As the U.S. and Cuba thaw their relations and more Cuban players find their way to the Major Leagues. Right now there are more Cuban players than ever before. Teams are watching the change in Cuban policy very closely. They are salivating at the prospects. You just wait. The Cubans are going to take over.
