Fast and Furious’ Paul Walker Dies In Car Accident

Paul Walker, the star of the Fast and the Furious franchise, passed away yesterday in a terrible car crash. Walker’s Facebook page made the official announcement. Apparently, he was the passenger in a car driven by a friend after a charity event. The LA Police department said that is couldn’t confirm the cause of death or the driver’s identities until the coroner does an autopsy. Authorities responded to the crash around 3:30 pm LA time and found the car engulfed in flames. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Walker starred in several films including the 90’s high school football classic Varsity Blues before hitting it big in 2001 with the first Fast and the Furious film. He showed that he had some real acting chops in films like Flag of Our Fathers. But Walker was more than just a pretty face…although he certainly was easy on the eyes. I first became aware of him in college when all the girls kept talking about this Paul Walker guy they were all in love with. Walker was one of those actors that has that undefinable quality they call “It”. When he was on screen you couldn’t take your eyes off of him, even though he starred with hotties like Michelle Rodriguez. By all accounts he was also a really nice guy. I know a few people who worked with him in various films and said he was a down to Earth person that treated everyone, even office PA pee-ons with respect. That’s rare in Hollywood.

Ironically, Walker was in production of the 7th Fast and the Furious films. Given the nature of his death, it’s pretty eery that he’s best known for a film about driving. The franchise is one of Universal’s most lucrative film series and with Walker gone the future of the films is in doubt. We have 6 of them, five of them with Walker, to keep us going. I’m going to celebrate Paul’s life by having a Fast and Furious marathon.
