Feds Bust “Silk Road” Super Villain Ross Ulbricht

The criminal mastermind behind the international black market site Silk Road, Ross William Ulbricht, has been busted by the Feds. Like something out of a friggin modern spy movie, this dude’s site was like the Amazon of illegal stuff. Narcotics, arms, computer hacking, money laundering, and God knows what else was just a click away. According to special agent Christopher Tarbell Silk Road was “the most sophisticated and extensive criminal marketplace on the Internet,” it generated over 1.2 billion in 2 years! I know he looks like a barista at Starbucks but Ulbricht is like a cross between Mark Zuckerburg and Blofeld from the James Bond books. I imagine the FBI had to raid his secret lair in a hollow volcano.

The Feds had been after him for years, but he had a complicated routing system that was almost impossible to track. In the movie version, a nerdy guy would run the network from a desk either like a dozen screens. But Ulbricht isn’t a fat dork hacking from his mom’s basement. He is seriously dangerous. Agent Tarbell says he was “Willing to pursue violent means to maintain his control of the website.” Holy crap! I can’t wait to see how this turns out. Let’s face it, rarely does reality meet airplane book levels of intrigue.
