Free Bud Light if Mexico Beats Brazil

Anheuser-Busch announced that if El Tri breaks the “curse of the fifth” and advances to the World Cup quarterfinals, it would provide free beer.

Since 1994 World Cup, Mexico has not been able to advance past the Round of 16, a defeat Mexican soccer fans have called the “curse of the fifth game.”

Mexico will have a chance to break the curse as they face Brazil on Monday and if they beat Brazil every soccer fan in California will celebrate the win with free Bud Light courtesy of Anheuser-Busch.

The company made the announcement via Twitter in a cryptic tweet written in a mock Old English dialect. Bud Light said, “such a great victory shall be celebrated by…helping ye pay for thy celebratory Bud Lights.”

More details would come once the curse is actually broken.

As for why California was chosen, according to Anheuser-Busch:  “California is awesome and we know that El Tri has a huge fan base there. In fact, during the last World Cup, Californians issued twice as many social posts about Team Mexico than any other state.”

El Tri takes on the Seleção Monday, July 2 at 7 a.m. PT.
