“Frozen” Writer Robert Lopez Got His EGOT Last Night

Robert Lopez achieved an honor that very few artists can ever mange to complete: the EGOT. If you don’t know that’s an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. Last night’s Oscar for the song “Let it Go” from the Disney film Frozen was shared with his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez. His Emmy was for the show “Wonder Pets” and his Grammy was for the original cast album for “Book of Mormon”. He has two Tony awards for “Avenue Q” and “Book of Mormon”. Many EGOT winners are composers, people like Marvin Hamlisch for example. But it is possible for performers to get there. Audrey Hepburn and Whoopi Goldberg are both EGOT winners.

Robert Lopez is also only the second Latino to achieve the feat after the great Rita Moreno. I’m hoping I get mine for writing and directing like Mel Brooks and Mike Nichols. It could still happen. I’m still relatively young.
