8-Bit Subway Station In Sweden

This author lives in New York City, and let me tell you that the subway ain’t pretty. What passes for art in most subway stations in NYC is a phallus painted on a movie poster going in Ben Affleck’s or Kate Hudson’s ear. Sure, there is the abstract expressionism created by homeless urine and or vomit splatter, but it isn’t exactly aesthetically pleasing. We wish that Bloomberg would take a cue from the Swedes and do something cool with the subway.

In 2008, the Swedish government commissioned this dude Lars Arrhenius to makeover the Thorildsplan metro station. Don’t ask us how that’s pronounced. He created an amazing tiled homage to the 8-bit video games of us old people’s childhoods. Pac Man, Super Mario, and Dig Dug are all represented. Pac Man subways, meatballs, tall buxom blonds, and ergonomic furniture? What’s not to love about being Swedish?
