Hey Latinos, Cut It Out: Lines Carved Into Your Hair

In our “Hey Latinos, Cut It Out!” feature we ask you, our Latino brothers and sisters, to cut out some behavior that is embarrassing the rest of us. We do this in order to foster peaceful coexistence with our non-Latino neighbors and so we aren’t ashamed to be seen with you in public.

Your haircut says a lot about you. You may say, “Naw, man people shouldn’t judge a book by its cover,” which is a nice sentiment, but isn’t based on reality. If you carve lines in your head it tells people, “Don’t employ me.” I live in New York, and I regularly see young Latinos leave the neighborhood barbershop with more lines on their head that the Nazca Lines of Peru. Are you trying to contact aliens with your head? When you are a teenager and no one takes you seriously anyway, it’s OK to do stupid things to your hair. But once you are of college age, cut it out. We Latinos have enough trouble having people take us seriously without you carving “100% Boricua” on to your dome.
