Hugo Chavez’s Ghost Appearing Everywhere In Venezuela

Hugo Chavez may be dead but his spirit keeps hanging around Venezuela. President Nicolas Maduro claims that Chavez appeared on the wall of a subway tunnel to say “what’s up” to some construction workers. It isn’t the first time either. Maduro claims Hugo has appeared to him in a number of guises before including a bird. I’m not sure if it is Hugo’s beloved pet parrot Simon Bolivar, but either way the guy won’t just leave. Maduro says of the incident,

“My hair stands on end just telling you about it. Who is that face? That gaze is the gaze of the fatherland that is everywhere around us, including in inexplicable phenomena. Just as it appeared, so it disappeared. So you see, what you say is right, Chávez is everywhere, we are Chávez, you are Chávez.”

Chavez has become a chubby socialist version of the Virgin Mary, showing up in random spots and on walls. Next they’ll find his image on pieces of toast and in the shape of potatoes. Chavez created a cult of personality around himself while he was still alive. He believed that he was chosen to carry on the work of Simon Bolivar, (the liberator not the parrot). In a way, I’m glad that Hugo Chavez is still with us in spirit. Not because I liked him or his policies but because he was hilariously goofy. Seriously, Hugo Chavez was like my favorite cartoon character.
