Most Influential Hispanic: Cristina Saralegui




Almost all Hispanics have seen her show “El Show de Cristina”, but how did she become the Hispanic Oprah Winfrey. Cristina Saralegui was born in Havana, Cuba. After graduating from the Academy of the Assumption in 1966 she enrolled at the University of Miami, In 1973 she began an internship at the magazine Vanidades. In 1997 Cristina was the editor for the Spanish version of Cosmopolitan magazine. In 1989 she crossed over to television with her Miami based Spanish language talk show, El Show de Cristina on Univision.

Throughout the years, she has revealed her cosmetic surgeries, given condom demonstrations and even married gay couples in her TV show. Since coming to the U.S. from Cuba at age 12, she has created a Hispanic empire which includes Cristina La Revista, a talk show, which has won 11 Emmys and an estimated 100 million viewers worldwide, a Miami television studio; Casa Cristina, a furniture line, and an upcoming clothing line. If that was not enough she also has an acting career that has included an appearance on ABC’s George Lopez. She has also giving back to the community with her foundation, Arriba la Vida, which educates Hispanics about HIV. She also helped support the American Foundation for AIDS Research and the National Parks Conservation Association. Cristina is an example for all young Hispanic women, that you can have success with hard work and the ganas to get what you want.
