Jane The Virgin Wins At Both The Golden Globes And People’s Choice Awards

The popular CW Latino-centric sitcom Jane The Virgin had a very good weekend winning awards at both The People’s Choice Awards and The Golden Globes. At The People’s Choice Awards it won “favorite new TV comedy”. But it was at the Golden Globes where the show’s star Gina Rodriguez won for Best Actress in a TV Comedy. The show was also nominated for best TV comedy but did not win. Jane the Virgin is a very unique show not only in that it has a predominantly Latino cast but also in the fact that the show itself is bilingual. Rodriguez talked about the groundbreaking nature of the show in her acceptance speech saying, “This award is so much more than myself. It represents a culture that wants to see themselves as heroes.” She went on to say backstage:

“First and foremost, the nomination alone was a win for me because it allowed Latinos to see themselves in a beautiful light. We are dealing with a society that is so diverse, so beautiful and so human. We need to remember that we have the same stories, and see it as such. When I was a little girl I dreamed of this moment and there’s no better way to tell others that they can win too by living your dreams.”

I friggin’ love Jane the Virgin. I think it’s one of the funniest most creative shows on television and it’s something anyone can enjoy. How many shows can honestly say that?
