John Leguizamo’s ‘Latin History For Morons’ Opens On Broadway

John Leguizamo’s latest one man show, Latin History for Morons, hit Broadway this week at Studio 54 through February. The reviews have been raves for the show and talk about a timely subject. John noticed growing up that Latino history was pretty much completely overlooked in American history classes. Like, nothing. Or if they do discuss it is only in reference to the European conquest of the Americas. When I was a kid they still taught that the indigenous people of the Americas were savages and that the conquistadors were heroes. But John busts up those myths and more as he goes through Maya, Inca, Aztec, and more Indigenous people’s history to more modern legends like Desi Arnaz. He squeezes in 3000 years of history into two hours. No small feat.

I love John’s shows. If you’ve never seen Spic-o-Rama, Mambo Mouth, or Freak do yourself a favor and find them. I did monologues from Spic-0-Rama in college. They are so good they make my heart race. I can’t wait to see this show. Johnny Legs is a personal hero.
