Jorge Posada Retires

New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada announced today that he’s stepping away from the diamond after seventeen years of wearing the pinstripes. The Puerto Rican native was part of five championship teams (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2009), was named an All-Star  and won the Silver Slugger Award for his position five times (2000-2003, 2007).

But beyond all the accolades and honors, what made Jorge Posada–arguably one of the best at the position of all time — special was his loyalty to his team. In today’s baseball, it’s rare to see a player stay with the same team for their whole career.

Hip, Hip, Jorge!
