Latinos Make Up A Quarter Of The U.S. Economy

In spite of what the president and others might have repeatedly said, Latinos are NOT a burden on the U.S. economy. In fact, Latinos will, by 2020, make up over a quarter of the nation’s economy. According to a new study by The Latino Donor Collaborative called  “Latino Gross Domestic Product Report: Quantifying the Impact of American Hispanic Economic Growth” the Latino contribution to the American economy is worth over 2.13 TRILLION dollars. In case you were wondering, that more than the GDP of most medium sized countries. Contrary to what many right-wing pundits and politicians might say that Latinos are a drain on the economy, we are in fact one of the main driving factors in it.

Latinos pay their taxes, work hard, spend money, and are the cornerstone of the American economy. For those on the Alt-Right who would like to see us simply disappear, the reality is that the nation would come to a screeching halt. Not only would you take away all of that monetary capital but you would also lose a substantial and crucial part of the workforce. Latinos work a lot of the menial jobs that no one else wants to do but increasingly second and third generation Latinos are working in the private sector, fueling innovation, and running companies and start-ups. This information doesn’t fit into the narrative being spun by president Trump and others but facts are facts.
