Los Ticos Fall To The Netherlands In Penalty Shots

It seems that the 2014 World Cup is all about the Goalies. We have seen lots of close matches with great goalie saves.

The Netherlands had numerous chances to score but Costa Rica keeper, Keylor Navas, played a great game and did not allow the orange machine to score a single goal. Los Ticos had a great chance to score in the 19th minute when Joel Campbell turned inside Bruno Martins Indi and sent in a low cross towards the goal. The Dutch came so close in scoring in the 21st minute when Memphis Depay fed Van Persie in the left side of the goal. Los Ticos played one of their better games in the world cup and were able to go toe to toe with the orange machine. After two extra time periods, the game had to be decided in penalty shots. Tim Krul emerged as the unlikeliest of heroes as he blocked two penalty shots and helped the Netherlands edged Costa Rica to move on to the semi-finals against Argentina. Despite the loss, Los Ticos made history by reaching the quarterfinal stage for the first time and be the last CONCACAF team in the tournament. They were the surprise team in the tournament and should return home with their heads held high.
