Mexican Player Raul Jimenez to Atletico Madrid

The Spanish champions Atletico Madrid have signed the 23 year old Mexican striker Raul Jimenez from Club America, for 6 seasons and a reported fee of $14 million. The European teams, club Porto and Valencia have been interested in Jimenez but Club America refused to sell because of the low bid. The Hidalgo native will join the history of two other Mexican strikers, Hugo Sanchez and Luis Garcia, who took their talents to Madrid.

Jimenez quickly rose to fame as he helped the Mexican national team win the gold metal in the 2012 London Olympics and was part of the Mexican squad in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It is great to see more Latin American players move on to the European leagues and showcase their talents at the highest level. Jimenez, now joins Club Leon’s captain, Rafa Marquez and Colombia’s star James Rodriguez as the recent starts to take their talents to Europe.
