Obvious Selection Is Obvious: Lionel Messi Wins FIFA Ballon D’Or For Third Year In A Row

As if there was any doubt in anyone’s minds, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi won the 2011 FIFA Ballon D’or for the third time in a row. The award is given to the best footballer in the world, which Messi has been for quite some time now (sorry, Cristiano Ronaldo fans).

Not only was La Pulga named the best player in the world, but his goal against Arsenal in the first leg of their 2011 Champions League round of sixteen match was a finalist for the FIFA Puskas Award (best goal of the year). That score would end up losing to Neymar’s. Still, very impressive and worthy of your click:

So is there anything Messi can’t do? Well, yeah, win a World Cup apparently. Still, even if the Argentine wunderkind never hoists that hardware, he’s already gotten the opportunity to lift many championship trophies. Amongst them are  those belonging to the Champions League and La Liga.

Having grown up in a very Mexican family, rooting for Argentina is as common as hating on the USMNT on account of the fact that the albiceleste has eliminated El Tri from the last two World Cups. With that said, it’s difficult as a fan of the sport to not enjoy myself watching Messi play. Every time he’s on the pitch is like watching someone elevate their craft into pure art.
