Puerto Rico To Raise Huge Statue Of Christopher Columbus

Plans are moving forward to raise a giant statue of notorious mass murderer Christopher Columbus on a beach in Puerto Rico. The project has been around for several years to erect a Statue of Liberty-like monument to the monstrous navigator on the island. The statue was designed by Russian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli and will be raised near the municipality of Arecibo on the Northern coast. The monument will be 295 feet high and weigh over 600 tons making it one of the largest monuments in the Western hemisphere. The whole thing is a ploy by local leaders and businessman Jose Gonzalez Freire, (who owns the land), to attract tourists to the area. The question is: Why in the name of F. would you make a giant statue of that a-hole?

We here at Tu Vez have made no bones about our hatred of Christopher Columbus. It’s not much of an exaggeration to say that he’s one of the most evil dudes ever to sail the ocean blue. The dude straight up committed genocide of the native people of the Carribean and set in motion a system that would one day oppress millions. Not only that but his crew was largely responsible for the worldwide spread of syphilis. Of all the people that Puerto Rico could have chosen to honor with a giant statue, why him? It’s not like it was 100 years ago when celebrating the nursery rhyme version of Columbus’ history was common. The consensus today among historians is that he was a pretty terrible dude. In place of the statue of this d-bag, why not raise a monument to the native Taino that Columbus helped wipe out. Or Tito Puente. That would be epic.
