Rita Moreno Receives Lifetime Achievement SAG Award

The great Rita Moreno received the SAG Lifetime Achievement award at the ceremony that was held this past weekend. She sang, she danced, and even dropped an F-bomb saying, “I’m so f%^king excited!” after she was introduced by Morgan Freeman. At 82, Rita still looked like knock-out in a dress by Roberto Cavalli and a leather biker jacket, because she is still a badass. Moreno was a true pioneer for Latinos in the entertainment industry. In a time when Latinos like Anthony Quinn and Rita Hayworth were changing their names to suit Hollywood’s endemic racism, Rita was flaunting her Puerto Rican roots. She is probably best remembered for her Oscar winning role as Anita in West Side Story. Did I mention that she was the first Latina to win an Oscar? Well, she was. Not only that but she has EGOTed, getting an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and a Tony.

We love Rita and hope she keeps entertaining us for years to come. I want her to be the Latina Betty White. Here she is in West Side Story singing a song that is as relevant today as when it was first recorded.
