São Paulo Fire Destroys Favela

Firefighters struggled to put out a fire in São Paulo, Brazil, which burned down nearly eighty percent of a favela, also known as a shantytown or slum. The fire, believed to have been started by faulty wiring, claimed 400 homes, displacing nearly 1,600 people. Of those affected, only four are known to have been sent to the hospital. Considering how large the blaze was, this situation could have been much worse.
