Soccer Star Rafael Marquez Among 22 Sanctioned for Alleged Drug Ties

Legendary Mexican soccer player Rafa Marquez and a well-known band leader are among 22 people sanctioned for alleged ties to a drug trafficking organization.

The sanctions are the result of a multi-year investigation of the drug trafficking organization headed by Raul Flores Hernandez. Also included in the sanction was a professional soccer team and 43 entities in Mexico.

At the center of it all is Flores Hernandez who allegedly operated independently in the norther city of Guadalajara but had alliances with the Sinaloa and Jalisco Nueva Generación cartels.

Que lastima that Rafa Marquez is allegedly involved especially since he has been a great roll model for young football fans around the world. Although Marquez denied having any links to drug traffickers, ya veremos que pasa.

Marquez is a former defender for Barcelona, Monaco and the New York Red Bulls. He currently plays for the Mexican soccer club Atlas in Guadalajara and is captain of the Mexican national team.
