TACOS AL PASTOR AND FLAUTAS HEALTHIER THAN ENERGY BARS


Study revealed that flautas (rolled tacos for all you non-flauta knowers) made with cochinita pibil (also known as puerco pibil or cochinita con achiote, a traditional Mexican slow-roasted pork dish from the Yucatán Península of Mayan origin) and tacos al pastor contain less fat than potato chips and energy/fiber bars. You can now enjoy some delicious tacos al pastor and cochinita pibil flautas without feeling guity, porque a study conducted by professors and students from the Chemical Engineering, Food and Environmental Department in the University of the Américas in Puebla (UDLAP, by its Spanish initials), revealed that these foods contain less fat than potato chips and even energy bars.

In the research named: Tacos al pastor y flautas de cochina pibil ¿Sabes qué es lo que comes?, students analyzed samples of tacos and flautas where it was discovered that both foods contain similarity in moisture and fat, the tacos al pastor contain more protein (20.77%) and minerals (1.33%), and flautas have a higher carbohydrate content (40.70%).

The study concluded that cochinita pibil flautas can be a great source of energy or an “energy food” and fat in both comidas deliciosas are acceptable and even less than those found in some energy bars that contain 20% or 30% fat.
