Salma Hayek Co-Produces an Animated Film

This past May 17th, the film The Profet, produced by Salma Hayek, Clark Peterson, and Ron Senkowski, and funded by Participant Media and Doha Film Institute, was presented at the 67th Cannes international film festival.

It seems that the Mexican actress Salma Hayek is trying to pursue an Oscar with the animated independent film The Profet based on Khalil Gibranís 1923 classic The Profet.

Salma Hayek not only co-produced the film but also lends her voice to one of the characters. The film is made up of different stories where each represents a poem of the book. This film is directed by some of the greatest animated directors like Tomm Moore (The Secret of Kells), Nina Paley (Sita Sings The Blues) and Bill Plympton (Guard Dog), but the director Roger Allers, co-director of  The Lion King, was in charge in the film’s central narrative and supervised the film as a whole.

Voice cast includes Liam Neeson, John Krasinski, Quvenzhane Wallis, Frank Langella, Alfred Molina and of course Salma Hayek. It is great to see Salma Hayek grow from a  young telenovela Latina actress to a co-producer to such an ambitious project. We will be watching this film closely and see if it gets any Oscar nominations.
