The Yeezus Tour Plagued With Problems

Kanye West and his Yeezus tour have been a disaster from the start back in October 29th, 2013. His first show in Seattle started two hours late. The reason for the delay was that the equipment truck was stolen. In one show, Kanye performed with a man portraying Jesus on stage. The Vancouver show was cancelled due to production logistics.  Since then multiple shows have been canceled and or postponed, including two performances in Kanye’s  own hometown of Chicago, Illinois.  The only two problem free performances have been in Los Angeles at the Staples Center on Oct. 26th and Oct. 28th, 2013.

There have been giving several reasons for all these cancellations. The truck carrying the custom made 60 ft circular LED screen was damaged in an accident, the elaborate concert stage taking to long to assemble, technical issues, equipment truck being stolen, and props being destroyed. Technical problems are not the only issues with the tour. There have been low ticket sales in some cities. The Yeezus tour made a stop at the Kansas City Sprint Center, which holds up to 19,000 people, and only 4,500 fans showed up. Could Kanye have sabotaged his own tour without realizing it? Poor planning, over ambitious ideas, big ego, and elaborate stage setup have caused the Yeezus tour to be plagued with problems. Kanye’s unwillingness to compromise on the staging of the show may put the entire Yeezus tour on hold until all issues have been resolved.

For those who missed the Yeezus tour in 2013, West has extended the tour with nine February dates focusing on the East Coast and Canada.  Despite the problems and low ticket sales in some cities, the Yeezus tour ranked number two on Billboard’s hot tours of last year.  We will see if the remaining 2014 dates continue to be filled with technical problems, Kanye’s antics, and ego.
