This Week On Being Latino: Calling Out George Lopez And Swearing

Being Latino, the largest Latino community on Facebook, is a communication platform designed to educate and connect all peoples across the global Latino spectrum. They also have a fascinating online magazine. Every week, we’ll be featuring several stories we feel you should read.

Vindication is such a great feeling. A while back, during the early days of Tu Vez, we wrote a piece criticizing standup comedian and late night talk show host George Lopez for making cheap jokes that denigrate Latinos. It turns out we’re not the only ones who feel this way. Ryan Almodovar takes G. Lo to task for making the same jokes night in and night out.

On a lighter note, writer Gabriela Lazzaro talks about her experience with swearing. She mentions how her father’s penchant for letting out a curse word (or five) inevitably shaped her become the person she is. As someone who has a mother that swears like a sailor after a night of heavy drinking, we can completely relate.
