Tu Vez Spanglish Dictionary Word Of The Day: Chopin

Chopin

Verb: Bastardized form of the English word shopping. This is neither the composer Chopin or chopping, as in chopping onions. Extremely common, especially amongst Latinas who frequent malls. However, it can be used to refer to any act of purchasing. The one thing you can’t go chopin for is proper Spanish.

EX: “Yo voy a el mall para ir chopin por una camisa con fotos de gatos.”

TR: “I’m going to the mall to shop for a shirt with pictures of cats on it.”

EX: “¿Vas chopin, mama? Por favor compra me mas Fruit Loops. Mi plato de perros esta vacio.”

TR: “Are you going shopping Mom? Please pick me up some Fruit Loops. My dog bowl is empty.”
