Noun: Spanglish usually changes the spelling of whatever English word it is mangling. Not with el subway. I live in New York City, and I hear this everyday. In Spanish, a subway is usually called el metro, just like in French. New Yorkers also refers to the subway as the train, so saying el tren would be OK too. You can’t take el subway, because it doesn’t exist.
EX: “Hay un tipo vestido como Big Bird en el subway. Pero no tiene puesto pantalones.”
TR: “There is a guy dressed like Big Bird on the subway. But he isn’t waering pants.”
EX: “Hoy, el subway huele como una mexcla de orine y limones.”
TR: “Today, the subway smells like a mix of urine and lemons.”
