Up Your Valentine’s Day Game With Mexican Hot Chocolate Fondue

Next Wednesday is Valentine’s Day and that usually means taking your girl out for a fancy meal. It can be pricey, but your lady is worth it. My biggest problem with going out to eat on V-Day is how crowded everywhere is. If you didn’t make a reservation, you are going to have a hard time finding a place to eat. Even McDonald’s get’s crazy. So, why not show your girl how much you care by cooking for her at home? Women love a man that can cook, which is part of the reason I’ve been writing these culinary lesson posts. So, why don’t you check our back catalog for something she’d like as an entree and make her Mexican Chocolate Fondue for dessert. Fact: Women love chocolate. Fact: Fondue is a fun and playful way to eat. Fact: If you make this you will probably get some nookie.

Mexican Chocolate Fondue

2 Cups of strong dark roast coffee

1 Vanilla bean, sliced in half with the seeds scraped out (you’ll use both)

3 Cinnamon sticks

1 Cup of whole milk

1 Cup heavy cream

1 Tsp ground chili powder

16 Ounces of Mexican chocolate. It usually comes in a bar form. Abuelita and Ibarra are the best

Things to dip: Strawberries, sliced apples, churros, little squares of cake, sugar cookies, sliced mango, sliced papaya, chopped bananas, fried maduros, plantain chips, chunks of pineapple, marshmallows, ladyfingers, abuelita cookies, orange slices, etc.

Put the coffee, cinnamon sticks, and vanilla bean and seeds in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Let it boil until the liquid reduces by 2/3. Add the milk, cream, and chili powder and reduce the heat. Let the mixture come to a simmer but don’t let it boil again. Add the chocolate and whisk it around until all of the chocolate melts. This can take a while, but keep an eye on it or it will start to burn. Once it’s melted, transfer it to a fondue pot or some other thing that has a heat source. If you don’t have one, It’s OK. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and start eating it right away as it will start to harden after a few minutes. If it gets too hard, stick it in the microwave for 3 minutes. Simply dip the food in the chocolate and enjoy. Also, you’re welcome for the sex.
