Field Laborers Crop Dusted In New “Grand Theft Auto V” Trailer

Look, I understand that complaining about violence in video games is like complaining about the size of your manhood. There’s nothing you can do about it, so just sit back and enjoy it. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned from playing Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series, it’s that if you blindly kill everyone of every ethnicity and gender,  it’s not a hate crime. It’s extremely gratifying. We’ve all experienced the joy of throwing a grenade onto a dance floor and chasing after the survivors with a flamethrower.

But after watching the new trailer for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V, it’s clear that Rockstar has crossed a border I’m not entirely comfortable with. We rarely see Latin Americans in a video game, and when they finally pop up 42 seconds into the new trailer, they’re getting crop dusted. Whats the message there: “Welcome to America, you illegal vermin?” Isn’t crop dusting something you do to bugs or co-workers in an elevator? Seriously, if this is a mission where you have to intimidate the laborers to scare them off, then just straight up killing the workers would have been more respectable than scaring them off like stray dogs.

Well, what do you expect from a video game company that has built a reputation around exploiting stereotypes for cheap social commentary. It’s not like they’ve ever done anything to promote cultural understanding. They’re worse than George Lopez. Oh what’s that? My managing editor tells me that Rockstar is probably a Tu Vez sponsor. Never mind then. I can’t wait for this game to come out. Viva Rockstar!
