Mayan Death Ray Or Crappy iPhone Photo?

We’ve been writing about the coming Mayan apocalypse for some months now. According to the ancient Mayan calendar, the world as we know it will end on December 21, 2012. On that day we will be consumed by the fires of the feathered serpent Quetzalcoatl. Record numbers of tourists have traveled to the Mayan ruins in Mexico and Guatemala over the last couple of years trying to gain clues about the coming conflagration. When Hector Siliezar and his family visited the famous pyramid of Chichen Itza, he thought he was just taking some photos of the monument with his iPhone. Little did he know that he was about to witness the awesome power of the feathered serpent. Just as a crash of lightning lit up the sky, a beam of light shot out of the top of the pyramid into outer space.

True, no one saw the huge beam of light and it only appears in the photo. It’s easy to say that it is just the CCD chip in the phone creating an artifact from the lightning flash. But that’s just neysayery. Come on, are you going to believe that or that an ancient stone pyramid shot a laser beam into space to summon a flying bird-dragon? The simplest answer is usually the right one.
