Samba De Amigo Available For The Wii

When I was in college, my friends and I spent many, many, many drunken late night hours playing a game called, “Samba De Amigo“.For those of you who never played this game, it is like guitar hero except you play with maracas instead of a guitar. The game is seriously trippy. One of those crazy environments Japanese programmers love to create. It will give you a seizure and drive you insane at the same time, but in a good way.

You play as Amigo, a monkey in a sombrero with a set of maracas. Why someone playing samba is wearing a sombrero is beyond us. Anyway, they play samba, salsa, and other Latino types of music while you try to keep the rhythm with the maracas. The game was created by Sega in 2000 as an arcade game in Japan. Later, it was released in the States on the dearly departed Dreamcast system, (pour out some Dr. Pepper for our fallen friend).

Now, the game was released for the Wii in 2008, but I didn’t know about it. So, this isn’t so much news, as it is news to me. Still, whatever. It’s an awesome game that is fun to play by yourself or with friends. The gyroscopic hoosiewhatsits  in the Wii controllers really work well with the maracas, in ways that the Dreamcast could not. The graphics are a lot better too, almost twice as seizure inducing. We recommend taking a break every half-hour to prevent your body from breaking down due to too much samba-rockin’.
