Tu Vez Blast-From-The-Past Truck: MC Kid Frost Sings “La Raza”

Marty McFly and Doc Brown had the Delorean to go travel through time; We have the Tu Vez Blast-From-The-Past Truck. Every week, we’ll hop in our time traveling machine, gun it to 88 MPH, and go back in time to bring you the best from the good ol’ days. Will it be a clip from an old telenovela? An old school music video? Stick around and find out!

Today we are travelling to 1990. Back then, there weren’t a lot of well known Latino hip-hop stars (unless you count Gerardo…and we don’t). There was, however, MC Kid Frost. This Chicano rapper came on the scene with his songs about Latino pride, gangs, and life in the barrios of LA. His songs were a mix of Spanish, English, and cholo-ese giving a language education every Latino kid living in upper-middle class suburbs.

This video is for his classic anthem to Brown pride, “La Raza.” It starts like most hip hop videos from the early 90s: scenes from Scarface, lots of unironic mustaches, buttoned up shirts and chinos,  lowriders, and homegirls with big crunchy hair. If you don’t think this kicks ass then you don’t know nothing, your brain is hollow, been hit in the head too many times with a palo.
