“A Most Violent Year” Tells A Gritty Tale

The upcoming film A Most Violent Year is already getting rave reviews from advance screening audiences. The film stars Guatemalan and Cuban actor Oscar Isaac as a Latino immigrant who comes to New York City in 1981 to try and make a life for him and his family. The problem is that New York was in ruins in 1981 and had the most violent and crime filled year in the city’s history. He’s got to try and navigate the corrupt world he lives in without losing his soul. The film also stars Jessica Chastain as Isaac’s wife and Catalin Moreno. The movie looks pretty intense but really dark and complex. I live in New York but I’ve only ever experienced the gentrified relatively safe New York of the 2000s. It will be kind of interesting to see just how bad things got here.
