The Year in Latino Entertainment

As we start a new year we look back at some of the best moments of 2015 in Latino entertainment.

At number one we have Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu who won Best Director and Best Picture for the film “Birdman”. Ayi muy pocos Latinos in the movie business but when one actually has success it is a great pride for every Latino. When the world watched Alejandro win the Best Picture, the Mexican filmmaker raised his hand in glory not just for his success but for all Latinos in the movie business.

At number two we have Gina Rodriguez who pulled off the upset win and wins the Best Actress at the Golden Globes. No one thought that this quirky spoof on a Spanish-language telenovela would do much less win a Golden Globe.

At number three we have Miss Colombia winning the 2015 Miss Universe pageant. The 22 year old Paulina Vega wins the second title for Colombia beating out 87 candidates. The last time una Colombiana gano fue en el 1958. Miss USA Nia Sanchez was the 1st runner-up followed by Miss Ukraine Diana Harkusha, Miss Netherlands Yasmin Verheijen and Miss Jamaica Kaci Fennel placed 2nd to 4th runners-up, respectively.

And finally we have J Balvin bowing out of the Miss USA Pageant after Donald Trump’s comments that Mexican’s are rapists and criminals. The Colombian rapper J Balvin took a stand and refused to perform at the Miss USA pageant. These are just a few of many achievements for Latinos in entertainment in 2015, ojalá veamos más en el 2016.
