Argentina Advances After Winning A Close Game

Argentina advance to the quarterfinals of the World Cup! This great match between Argentina and Switzerland had to be decided in extra time as both teams could not score a goal.

The Swiss looked far more dangerous on the attack while Argentina looked desperate and kind of lost. In the final 10 minutes of the game Argentina launched attack after attack but the game had to be decided in extra time. The Swiss withstood a barrage from Argentina but their excellent goalkeeper, Diego Benaglio was finally beat with two minutes left in extra time. The great Lionel Messi had a quiet game, with only two shots at the goal, but he played a key role in the game-winning goal by setting up Di Maria for the game winning shot. Seconds after Di Maria’s goal, the Swiss had one last chance to take the game into penalties when Blerim Dzemaili hit the post and then missed a simple tap-in for the follow-up. It seemed that the goal post was playing for Argentina. Next for Argentina will be Belgium, who defeated United States.
