Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid Contract Renewal

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo said he could end his career with the Spanish giants after signing a new contract with Madrid on Sunday that will run until 2018.

Having sealed the world-record signing of Gareth Bale earlier in September, Madrid have now switched their attentions to tying up the Portuguese on a new, long-term deal.

Madrid have offered Ronaldo an increased wage of €15 million [£12.5m] per annum after tax, with the agreement set to run until 2018, in a total package worth a record €155m [£130m] over five years.

As a total package, it is the most lucrative contract in football history and the game’s largest annual wage following Samuel Eto’o’s departure from Anzhi Makhachkala. By comparison, Bale will pocket €10m [£8.4m] per annum after tax while Lionel Messi earns €13m [£10.9m] per annum, plus bonuses, over five years.

The Portugal forward’s current contract expires in 2015, All though their was rumors about him going back to Manchester, Ronaldo expressed himself.

“I will be honest with you – everyone knows I was in Manchester for six years. Manchester is in the past.

“Now my club is Real Madrid. This is my home, my family is here and I’m really happy here.

“I respect all the clubs who ask about me. But they always know that my decision, that my only goal is to be here and to play at this club until, maybe, the end of my career. The future nobody knows.”

Ronaldo’s future was called into question following Madrid’s protracted pursuit of fellow winger Gareth Bale in the summer.

They finally landed their man at the end of the transfer window, for a world-record €100 million, which meant Ronaldo was no longer the most expensive player in the world.
