Doctors Call for Warning Label on Avocados

According to reports, amateur cooks just can’t seem to slice up the fruit a staple of Mexican food without chopping into their hands.

Surgeons have seen a spike in the number of people who seriously injure themselves while trying to penetrate avocados. Now the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons is demanding a warning label on the avocado.

Along with the warning label, a avoca-do’s and dont’s could also be included showing how to safely open and dismantle the apparently hazardous fruit.

“We don’t want to put people off the fruit, but I think warning labels are an effective way of dealing with this,” surgeon Simon Eccles told the Times of London. “Perhaps we could have a cartoon picture of an avocado with a knife, and a big red cross going through it?”

Avocado is a delicious and healthy food but it can be tricky trying to open it and removing the pit. I myself have had lots of close calls. I have found the safest way to remove the pit is to use a tea spoon instead of a knife.
