Elisa Lam’s Death Inspires a Film Project

The mysterious death of the Canadian tourist Elisa Lam inspires the making of a horror film. On February 21st 2013, after she had been missing for weeks, her body was found in a water tank in the Cecil Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. It was stated that her death was an accidental drowning.

In spite of the strange circumstances of the death of Elisa Lam, the Cecil Hotel has a notorious dark history. In 1962 a woman jumped from a ninth-floor window, provoking the death of a man that was walking by the hotel. There is also the unsolved case of Goldie Osgood “The Lady Pigeon”. She was raped and killed in her room.

Cecil Hotel was the temporary home of two serial killers. In 1985, Richard Ramirez, known as The Nightstalker, lived several months in a fourteenth floor room. He was arrested and sentenced to death for killing fourteen people. In 1991, Jack Unterweger also lived in the Cecil Hotel for several weeks, where he killed several prostitutes.

Before finding the lifeless body of Elisa Lam, she was captured by the surveillance camera from the hotel’s elevator, you can see in the video Elisa Lam acting very strange.

The movie will be based on a screenplay by Brandon and Phillip Murphy entitled “The Bringing“.  Is  going to be interesting to see how the film will mix the fictional story with real facts that happened in the Cecil Hotel.
