‘One Day At A Time” Returns To Netflix February 8

Everyone’s favorite crazy Cuban family returns on February 8th when One Day at a Time season 3 premieres on Netflix. There are a lot of things to love about Netflix’s remake of the classic 70’s sitcom One Day at a Time. First and formost: Rita Moreno. As great as the ensemble cast that includes the great Justina Machado, Rita steals the series. This season executive producer Gloria Estefan will join the fun. But as a Cuban-American this show really resonates with me.

Rita Moreno’s character is an amalgam for me of my mother and abuela. To the point where I sometimes hear words that they said come out of their mouths. Justina’s character, the over-protective Cuban mom, is even more like my mother. My family also dealt with a family member coming out as LGBTQ in our own Cuban way similarly to how they did on the show with Isabella Gomez’s character. Was I like the cool kid son played by Marcel Ruiz…not so much. I was more like Schneider in my own family. What I’m saying is that for the first time since the classic 80’s series ¿Que Pasa USA?, I see myself and my family represented on the screen. I cannot say enough about this show. Watch it so they renew it!
