Oscars 2019: Roma Wins Best Foreign Film

Alfonso Cuarón’s movie, Roma wins Best Foreign Language Film. There have been 8 previous foreign film nominations from Mexico without winning the award and finally Roma breaks the streak by taking the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

“Roma” is the first foreign language film to be nominated for Best Picture since Michael Haneke’s “Amour” in 2012. “Roma” is also the first Netflix movie to ever compete in the Best Picture category.

The award was presented by Angela Bassett and Javier Bardem who spoke in Spanish and delivered a pointed message about the absurdity of building walls.

Felicidades a Alfonso Cuarón!
