Pedro Martinez Voted Into The Baseball Hall Of Fame

Dominican pitcher Pedro Martinez led a group of four players that were voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The others are Craig Biggio, John Smoltz, and Randy Johnson. Martinez, a three time Cy Young Award winner, appeared on most of the ballots. This was his first year of eligibility. He’s remembered in particular for the 1999-2000 seasons where he was a dominant force. He was also part of the now legendary team that won the World Series for the Sox in 2004. I can put aside my personal hatred for the Red Sox to be happy for Martinez. It’s always nice when a Latino gets into the Hall of Fame. I am particularly happy with the induction of Craig Biggio as a lifelong Astros fan. He was one of the last truly classy players to play the game.

I live in New York City and plan on driving up to Cooperstown for the induction this year. I’ll report back on how it goes and take lots of pictures of me in front of bronze plaques of long dead players.
