Pope Francis Does Border Mass

For much of the five day trip in Mexico, Pope Francis has been smiling for selfies, kissing babies but on Wednesday, the Pope unleashed another side of his persona.

As Pope Francis celebrated a historic mass at the border between Mexico and the United States, he delivered a stinging message to leaders on both sides of the fence, calling the “forced migration” of thousands of Central Americans a human tragedy and humanitarian crisis. “Being faced with so many legal vacuums,” the Pope said during his homily before a congregation of more than 200,000 people, “they get caught up in a web that ensnares and always destroys the poorest.”

The Pope also walked the Rio Grande in Ciudad Juarez just short of the U.S. Mexico border to lay flowers and pray for the thousands of migrants who have died in the desert on both sides of the border. That visual will be the most symbolic image of the Pope’s six day trip to Mexico especially when illegal immigration is a hot topic in the U.S. presidential race. With Donald Trump calling Mexicans rapists who bring “crime and drugs into the U.S.”  and repeatedly said he would build a wall along the entire border and make Mexico pay for it.  Even Senator Ted Cruz joked that he will hire Trump to build the wall.

I have much respect por este Papa, not only did he call out the corrupt Mexican Government but he went to the heart of the cartel’s dark territory in Morelia, Michoacan, and told the young crowd that Jesus wants them to be disciples, not “hitmen.”
