Rafa Marquez Leaves Club León F.C.

Rafa Marquez, who won back-to-back Liga MX titles with Club León F.C. as club captain, had a standout performance in the 2014 World Cup. There had been rumors swirling that Marquez would be leaving Club León F.C., and club president Jesus Martinez Jr. confirmed the news.

Marquez joined Monaco in Ligue 1 from Club Atlas in 1999, before signing for Barcelona in 2003 and going on to become one of the most successful exports in the history of Mexican soccer. Now the 35 year old Marquez has another chance to return to Europe by signing with the Italina team Hellas Verona of Serie A. This is great news for Marquez as has shown that at the age of 35, he can still play at a very high level. Unfortunately, Club León F.C. will be left without a key player and will face new challenges to try to 3-peat. It was great seeing Rafa play for the Panzas Verdes and help them not only return to their glory days but to win back-to-back titles. We will definitely miss you Rafa.
