Real Madrid Beats Barcelona In Copa Del Rey Final, Then Drops The Cup In Parade

The match– dubbed “El Clasico” every time these two clubs meet– was a hard-fought battle. It was so hard-fought, in fact, that neither club was able to score in regulation. Luckily for fans of Los Merengues, the nill-nill was broken at the 104-minute mark by none other than “Pretty Boy” Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo lasered a header past Barcelona’s Jose Manuel Pinto after a beautiful cross from Argentine midfielder Angel di Maria. The lone goal was enough to give the Madrid squad their first Copa del Rey victory since 1993.

But wait, it gets better! The victorious club flew back to Madrid from Valencia– the Cup final was disputed in Estadio Mastalla– and immediately boarded a double decker bus that would take them to Plaza de Cibeles, the traditional place of celebration in the city. As the bus made it’s way to the plaza, the Madrid players celebrated and jubilated with their fans, who had lined the streets to share in the club’s victory. Then, all of a sudden, Real Madrid co-captain and defender Sergio Ramos lifted the 15kg (slightly more than 33 pounds) and proceeded to drop it. In front of the bus. Which ran it over. You can’t make this stuff up, folks. The bus was eventually stopped, the trophy was recovered (not without significant damage), and the celebration continued.
