Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Returning To Theaters Soon

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was one of my favorite television shows growing up. But as I’ve gotten older, I can’t help but wonder just how high the creators of the animated series must have been to come up with the specifics. It’s a show about mutant reptiles who are all named after brilliant renaissance personalities. Oh yeah, they’re also teenagers and they love eating sewer pizza. Oh yeah they are also highly skilled ninjas. Oh yeah, their leader is a giant rat that loves wandering around in bathrobes like a depressed, recovering addict. That description sounds like the ramblings of someone in the midst of a fever dream. However, some high level television producer heard that elevator pitch and was like, “that sounds perfect for impressionable children!” And you know what, they were right.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back!

Fans of the original movies may not like the fact that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are computer generated this time around, however, that’s the least of my concerns. Technology has reached a point where computer generated characters can be as good, if not better actors than their human counterparts – Gollum being a great example of this. My concern is that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie is a reboot of a beloved franchise, which means it has big, nostalgic shoes to fill. One positive this movie already has going for it is that it features aggressive teenagers fighting for good, rather than evil. It seems like every story on the interwebs these days is about gangs of unruly teens engaging knock out games while high on moon-rocks or bath salts or whatever. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles come from a time when the worst thing you could do in your teen years was eat too much pizza or make sexy women with your computer. As Splinter would say, “kids these days lack discipline!”

We’re still several months away from the movie, but the trailer is here today.
