Tequila May Fight Obesity And Diabetes

Tequila is perfect for any occasion. Having a birthday? Take a shot! Finally graduated from college after seven years? Celebrate with tequila. Woke up before noon on a Tuesday? Finish off the bottle! Coming up with a good excuse to drink tequila is rarely difficult. And now scientists have made it that much easier to justify the habit. According to recent findings, scientists have discovered that lab rats that were given agavins, a naturally occurring sugar found in the agave plant, not only lost weight, but also had less risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Quick refresher: tequila is made from agave.

Scientists don’t always get the credit they deserve. Sometimes they talk about things that a lot of people don’t agree with: evolution, climate change, fart proof underwear. However, I think we (alcoholics) can agree that having more scientifically backed excuses to drink is definitely a good thing. My only concern here is that these findings could lead the health conscious (people with futures) to drive up the prices on tequila – causing some kind of drunkard gentrification. I don’t want to go to the liquor store only to find that my favorite bottom-shelf baja agave has been replaced with some over-priced, gluten free, smooth tasting, organic tequila. Just because tequila might be good for you doesn’t mean it should taste good too. You’re supposed to drink it down fast, bite a lime, then scream like someone just burned you with a hot poker. That may not sound like a good time, but for some of us, that’s the best medicine there is.
